Educational Meetings
Guests Are welcome to attend
Our educational meetings are designed to share knowledge about rocks, minerals, and related subjects. Each meeting may feature guest speakers, refreshments, silent auction, and information of upcoming events and activities within the Society. Guests are warmly welcome to attend and explore the fascinating world of gem and minerals with us.
April Educational Meeting
Join us at our January Educational Meeting featuring a presentation by Mike Hunerlach! Explore the world of Silica (SiO₂) as Mike Hunerlach discusses Agates and Jaspers and their fascinating relation to ore deposits. Gain insight into the geological processes that create these stunning minerals and their significance in the earth sciences.
Mike Hunerlach is a retired Mining Engineer and Geologist with over 45 years of experience in mining exploration, geology, and mine development. Throughout his career, he has served as an Expert Witness in Mineral Case Law for the U.S. government and has been a Certified Mine Safety Trainer for both surface and underground mines.
Mike’s latest significant accomplishment was securing approval for the Plan of Operations for Rio Tinto’s Resolution Copper Mine in Superior, AZ—the largest underground copper mine in the United States. With an estimated resource value of $4 trillion, this mine is projected to supply 25% of the U.S. copper demand for the next 50 years.
