Cabochon Classes
Learn to cut and polish your own cabochons!
Our Cabochon Classes help members and the public learn the art of transforming rough stones into beautiful cabochons — perfect for jewelry making or display. Whether you are new to lapidary arts or looking to improve your skills, these hands-on classes will guide you through the process of selecting material, using lapidary equipment, and achieving a professional polish.
Classes are held in our fully equipped Lapidary Shop, with instruction by experienced members. As new class levels and topics become available, they will be posted here.
Registration Process

Pre-registration is required for all Cabochon Classes. Class sizes are very limited to ensure plenty of one-on-one instruction and safe use of equipment.

Payment is accepted in cash or by check and must be paid in full at the beginning of the class.
Introductory to Cabochon Making
Discover the fundamentals of creating cabochons, one of the most popular forms in lapidary arts. This class provides a complete introduction to the lapidary arts — no experience required! You will learn how to select suitable rough stones, cut and shape different type of stones using specialized machines, and polish them to a high gloss. You will also learn basic workshop maintenance and how to safety use saws, grinders, sanding wheels, and polishers. Our instructor will guide you through each step, ensuring you gain confidence and skill in crafting these beautiful, domed stones.

Class Fee: $50 per person
(includes shop fee, materials, and supplies)
Introductory to Cabochon Making class consist of 8 sessions where you'll create 3 cabochons from material provided by the Society.
Registration is open to the public. To ensure individual attention, class size is limited to four students per session.
One of your cabochons must be donated to display in the Members Exhibit Case during the Gem & Mineral show and returned after the event.

After the Introductory to Cabochon Class
Upon completion of the Introductory to Cabochon Making Class, Society members are eligible to attend Open Sessions and Saw Certification Class at the Lapidary Shop to continue practicing and developing their skills.
Opal Cabochon Making
Discover the techniques of cutting and polishing delicate opal material — one of the most beautiful and challenging stones in the lapidary arts. In this specialty class, you will learn how to handle, shape, and finish opals to create stunning cabochons while preserving their color and minimizing the risk of breakage.
You will work with several opal rough and learn special considerations for cutting and polishing this fragile material. Our experienced instructor will guide you through each step, helping you develop the confidence and skill to create beautiful opal cabochons.

The Roseville Rock Rollers Lapidary Shop is a not for profit, educational facility. Any work completed in the workshop, including cabochons and jewelry, is for personal use or gifts only. Use of finished work for commercial sale is prohibited.
