Saw Certification Classes
Learn to safely cut large rocks with confidence
Our Saw Certification Class trains adult members to properly use the Lapidary Shop’s 18-inch and 24-inch slab saws, powerful machines used for cutting large stones into usable halves and slabs. The class focuses on safety, setup, and responsibility — ensuring all users are trained for effective operation.
Whether you plan to slab rough material for cabochons, intarsia, or other lapidary work, this certification is a must-have for working with larger rocks in our shop.

After the Saw Certification Class
After completing the Saw Certification Class, the certified member’s name is added to the Large Saw Authorized Users List. Certified members are eligible to attend Open Sessions at the Lapidary Shop to use the saws under the supervision of the Instructor. However, the Lapidary Shop fee and per slab cut fee still apply at time of use.
Instructors do not need to be present during the entire cutting process. Certified members must remain with the saw while it is cutting and are responsible for monitoring operation, cleanup, and reporting malfunctions. Improper use may result in removal from the Authorized Users List.
