The featured speaker
for the show was Walt Wright, Paleobotanist, Geologist, and
Paleontologist.
Walt was available both Saturday and Sunday to answer visitors'
questions and help identify specimens
of petrified wood which they brought in. Walt gave a lecture at 2:00
pm each day in Lauppe Hall entitled
“Continental Drift and the Formation of Fossil Wood."
Walt's personal
Petrified Wood exhibit covers a wide range of varieties, time periods,
and locations throughout the world. Trees of today preserved in time!
He displayed 80 of his incredible fossilized wood specimens.
We were fortunate to have other displays of petrified wood, also
displayed in Lauppe Hall.
